Default Evo MM hard starting

Bike is cranking a lot more then usual , when started it runs fine , fuel pump pressures up in about 3 seconds and engine light goes out - all as usual and has no codes ( when i do the key on/off thing the engine light flashes very fast but according to the book this means no codes ) watching the stepper motor on the manifold it works in and out like it should
Any ideas where to start , when cranking if i give it throttle it will pop and then start after that it starts fine as many times as i try it , just the first cold start seems to be the issue

Thanks

Dave

Have the battery load tested at an auto parts store. It could be on its way out. You can also try re-synching the ECM to the IAC. There is a key on/off procedure outlined in the service manual.

Also check the cam position sensor. Look if there is goo dripping from the nose cone. Sometimes they fail but do not leak.

What he said - cam position sensor is a pretty common issue for the symptom you describe

Dave, we also have a dedicated Evo section, where we have members with experience of the MM system, well worth checking over there.
