Default ThunderMax PN#309-562 for stage V

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience with the ThunderMax PN#309-562 used on touring 2014 and up ?

I currently have the FP3 and I plan to leave the 12mm on and switch the ECM with the ThunderMax PN#309-562 to see witch one I want to end up with.
My configuration is with the bolt-on 110 stage V 92500037

110 cylinders
CNC ported heads
10.75:1 compression (using .030 gasket)
SE-259E cams
58mm throttle
5.3 g/s injectors
SE clutch spring
SE tappets & perfect push rods

Thank you all for sharing your experience

Your going to have to do some work here. There is not a 110 throttle by wire map that closely matches your build. Your going to have to merge a few maps to get to a good starting point.

There are two 106ci throttle by cable maps (itemid 871 and 872) that are close to your build. Copy and paste the timing tables from one of these 106 maps into the 110ci throttle by wire map (itemid 319). that will get you close.

With the thundermax, you do not have to worry about the AFRs. Autotune will take care of it. You do have to worry about timing. A map that has the same stroke and has similar bore, compression, and intake valve closing will have timing that gets you close to the mark.

Default Map

Thank you. I was also looking at the #310 that has the cam 577 which is closer to the se-259e. Also could you please tell me how to merge and copy tables from a different map?

Check Thundermax website, 309-562 comes with 18mm 5 wire o2 sensors that have to be installed close to head like a 2009. 12mm are 4 wire 02 sensors. Have been researching this ecm for my 2016 FLHXS. I am new to all this electronic stuff as I have been riding a 92 evo for the last 23 years, please don't take this as gospel. Brad

The 310 is a close match. The 871-872 maps are nearly identical to the 310 with the exception of the slightly larger bore. Could be a good start. The timing is still different. Give the 310 a go and see how it does. You can still do as mentioned and copy the timing events from 871-872 later into the 310 if needed.

to copy a table click on any point in the table then press shift/Ctrl/C. That will copy all timing or AFR points for that table. Close the map, open the target map and paste the copied table. To paste, click on any point in the table then press shift/Ctrl/V. Save changes the repeat for every table you want to copy

Default Done

2014 Ultra Limited (Twin Cooled), Rinhart Slimduals, ThunderMax (2014) and 2016 Stage V 110 Bolton,

92500037 - Stage V kit $2,300
29400223 - 58mm Screamin Eagle Cleaner $360
309-562 - Thundermax ECU $720
Redline - WaterWetter $22 ( replaced the antifreeze coolant - please note this is being used only on climate with temperatures above 32 degrees.

Labor 10 hours @65/hour $650
Parts bought from Boardtrackerharleyonline.com

*** Note - This kit is for the Air Cooled but I asked the vendor to switch the CNC ported heads with the CNC ported water cooled.

I received the kit about 45 days after I order it. The parts were very well packed and the quality was surprisingly good, perhaps because the parts are all race Screamin Eagles.

Installation was straight forward, it could have taken less time but I was a bit picky with the mechanic. The head gasket I used was the cometic .030 that changed the compression from 10.5:1 to 10.75:1. The only thing the mechanic had to adjust was 2 piston rings gap by filing the ends to spec. I had installed the 18mm O2 sensors but left the narrow band on as well.

After the bike was ready to start I used the HD super tuner and flashed the ECU with the stage 4 calibration. There is a Stage V calibration but it did not allow me to flash it with that calibration since that is for the air cooled.
I started the bike and it sounded horrible. I stopped the bike and used the FP3 to flash the ECU, I made the cam changes, displacement, fuel injectors etc, and put it in Autotune mode. Started the bike and it was much better. Left the mechanic and stopped about 20 miles into the ride and flashed the 1st autotune data and that made the bike run about 100% better but still far from good. The following day I installed the Thundermax ECU, I used the base map #305 - I set the Idle RPM and performed the Kick Stand Tuning. The first 200 miles the bike was running like day and night difference. I have changed the map to #310 since the cam specs are bit closer to the SE-259E I have on the bike. I followed the process again (Idle RPM and performed the Kick Stand Tuning ). I put about 200 more miles and changed the oil and filter.

** The Bike Runs Like a Swiss Watch ** - Please note that with the new Thundermax there is no need to link to the computer anymore to write the learned data. It is automatically written every time the bike is cycled off.

So in summary I'm very pleased with this kit, lots of power, it sounds way better than I expected, and the bonus....it is way cooler, perhaps with the aid of the massive air cleaner and the Red Line WaterWetter coolant.

Although it may sounds simple but I did a lot of research and preparation and asked a lot of people for help to fully understand what I need to do.

All the Maps is to get you close, once you set TIMING / air/fuel -injector to 5.3 you have a custom map. Most of the maps max timing is to HI. If compression is over10.0 to 1 timing about 30 /31 degrees max timing for the street.
