Default Throttle body cleaning

Is it safe to use carb cleaner down the throat of the the EFI throttle body? Will it hurt any sensors?

I haven't used it on my bike yet but I've cleaned hundreds of throttle bodies on cars with the same sensors, though I don't spray it directly on fly by wire systems.

Do not spray. Take a cotton cloth and spray it. Then clean around butter fly. The throttle by wire still have a combination sensor and throttle position sensor. Not sure what it would do but the butter fly edges and around where it hits is all you need.

The older cable models will wash crud up past IAC valve o-ring and destroy the motor making it stick. It will also hose up the idle position sensor if it runs up the shaft and gets on the resistor rub face.

The air going thru there is clean and way to slow to pull oil in. What you see is from the spit-back and the fuel injector wash that dries up. It can crud up the metered area around the butterfly since that is the biggest part of the idle or give the throttle a little stick coming off idle if it really is bad. The idle trim from cold starts and actual control is from the IAC valve or on the throttle by wire motors, the butterfly motor.

Most people do not realize the the throttle by wire body is about 1/3 cheaper the the older cable one. It also bumps the throttle rpm on throttle off which gives the engine more air to decrease pollution. This enabled Harley to add a better fuel ration for more power across the rpm range.

Use throttle body cleaner, not carb cleaner.

You can also use a Mass Air Flow sensor cleaner
.
