Intermittent misfire

Intermittent misfire
I have been having the problem with intermittent misfire, sometimes when it's hot, sometimes after only a few minutes. I have the TP 107 dual coil, single fire. I just did another post where it was just quiting. It has stopped doing that, after redoing some of the wiring. The intermittent misfire can last several minutes. I have pulled over and jiggeled wires, etc. and that seemed to help, however today, I just pulled over and waited a minute, it straightened out (with the engine running). Upon examination, I noticed that the copper colored braided wire (looks like a rope) that connects between the starter and I think the selenoid, is not tightly woven anymore and the rubber cover is split, showing some of the wire.
Part of the problem, or not? This has been an on-going problem from last summer. I noticed this before (the wire), but the connections are good, so I didn't question it.
Thanks
