cylinder offset

cylinder offset
I have a DTT TC88A and have it set at initial timing of 3 and advance of 4. This setting eliminated all of the ping I was getting. Stock TC88 engine with Mikuni HSR 42, K&N filter, and Samson S160 slip-ons. Stock compression.
According to DTT website the free flowing intake and exhaust require less advance. I am surprised that I had to dial it down that much to eliminate the ping.
I noticed that my rear cylinder is running about 40 degrees hotter than the front. Rear is about 270 and front is about 230 measured with a laser temp meter.
My questions are:
1. Will setting the rear cylinder offset a few degrees retarded make the rear cyl run cooler?
2. Will the cyl offset make the rear cyl ping less and thus allow me to run higher initial and advance numbers?
Thanks
