Default 99 Road King ignition module

A 'new to me' bike--It's had an ongoing problem for the last year or two with the previous owner of shutting off. Wait a few minutes...fires up, good for the next hour or so. Over time, he replaced the crank sensor, ignition switch, and coil. (Took it to the dealership at one point...no codes) Today I ran it for the first time since i've had it (VERY hot outside) died after 3 miles or so, as if I'd hit the kill switch. Wait a few minutes, it fires up...not QUITE enough to get it onto the trailer, sadly.

The first thing we noticed with it was the ignition module had that 'burnt electronics' odor about it (nothing abnormal about its appearance) Do these things fail very often? Don't mind spending the money if there's a better than 50/50 chance of fixing it. (fyi, voltage while running is 14 and change, which I assume is normal for a modern bike--most of my experience is with Pans)

1999 touring had a recall on the bracket for vehicle bank angle sensor. The TILT sensor.
The safety device that cuts motor when the bike thinks it fell on its side.
The bracket problem caused sensor to trip and shut motor.
Ride down the road and hit a slight bump caused bike to respond as if run/stop was switched off.

99s had crank sensors. They got rid of them mid year 01 maybe. So you need an ignition that works with one, or disconnect.

Not sure if plug would be different, may just have unused terminals. Personally I would look into getting rid of it. One less problem. They eliminated for a reason

Mine showed the same systems and it turned out to be the tilt sensor. You can test it by grounding to frame or simply unplugging it. You'll get an engine light but the bike will run. About $70 from HD.

LOL, had no idea, thanks. At some point, you have to take the coffee pot away from the engineers so they'll quit thinking up stuff like that
