O2 sensors on bike without originals?
I have a 2006 Softail Deuce - FXSTDI, without OEM O2 sensors in the stock head pipes. I note that some aftermarket exhaust systems that will fit the bike have threaded bungs to accept O2 sensors. (These systems usually note that plugs are needed with the exhaust, where O2 sensors are not originally present.)
Can I use O2 sensors (wideband, I presume is needed) with some aftermarket tuner(s) on this bike? Will this give me the ability for "auto" tuning, as with the features of some tuner modules where O2 sensors are OEM equipment?
Or will the lack of ECM connections for the OEM control (without O2 sensors) make this non-functional with the aftermarket tuning modules?
Thanks for clarifying,
John

There are whole replacement systems that convert to closed loop EFI , Thundermax is one of them and that is what I use on my 03 FLHTPI
THen there is the add on option, a Power Commander 5 can tune by using added O2 sensors and a module

I have a PCV with auto tune on my 04 Road King which did not have stock O2 sensors. The Auto tune kit includes sensors that connect to the auto tune module, which connects to the Power Commander, which connects to the ECM. I did have to buy an exhaust system that had bungs for the sensors.

I did it to my 05 FLSTNI. Cost me less than 100 bucks. Picked up a 07 head pipe, actually complete exhaust, at a dealers spring clean out, 30 bucks. Got new sensors on a low bid on eBay, 60 bucks, wire was given to me, 0 bucks, and about ten bucks for the remaining bits. Six pack later, I was ready to vtune.

Thanks for the responses, everybody!
If I'm understanding correctly, the Harley-Davidson ECM can be configured to use the O2 sensors for closed-loop operation? BUT, it will need configuration, either by the dealer, or by an aftermarket (3rd party) tuner. So, there still is the need for a "tune" after equipping the exhaust headpipes with O2 sensor bungs.
So, it might as well be a "good" tuner (either aftermarket module, or shop dyno tuning, or both).
I can see the advantage for using auto-tune methods, so as to delay cartage to a dyno location. (I'm not sure I'd trust a dealer, and there isn't an independent tuner close by.) Thus my question about getting the sensors....
If the OEM controller has capability, then it might also have capacity for performance tuning? Is this what the SERT units do? Just extend capability for the H-D OEM ECM?
I appreciate the knowledge.
