Fact is, any bike properly recalibrated for its production variables will provide a better starting, running, response, and rideability, especially low speed and hot weather operation.
There is just no substitute for a well-tuned bike.
The folks to ask are those who own and ride bikes (even stock) tuned by a reputable tuner.
The best salesmen for dyno tuning justification are customers.

If V&H makes an Fp3 for your 2006 it will work well for that, plug in, download though blue tooth to your smart phone and done. Fuel Moto has a Micro tuner that does well and more flexible on mapping, but more involved as far as install and stays on the bike. Either unit will make your bike run better, cooler and more useable power band.

You don't live very far from a reputable dyno shop http://www.roederracing.com/. Touch base with them and let them tune it for you. Just tossing a flash tuner on it with a canned map is like throwing darts.

Keep in mind the Fp3 does do a good job on the "auto tune" after canned base map is downloaded.

I haven't personally had one go out on me, mainly because I never trusted a piggyback tuner and used flash tuners instead. I have however assisted a couple guys who had a PCV go **** up.

Sign up for a tune with the tuner of choice and have him supply or advise you which tuning device he prefers.
There is no better solution, however there is a ton of advice on the Internet.
That said I advise to listen to those who understand EFI and tuning for the same reason you would listen to your heart surgeon when you have chest pains rather asking your neighbor or buddy(s).
