changed plugs now bike is backfiring
I just changed the spark plugs in my 1999 titan gecko with an S&S motor and I took for a test ride and it back fires when rolling on the trottle. I put the old plugs back in and it is still doing the same thing. I don't know why it isn't firing right when all I did was change the plugs. It was running ok before I changed plugs.

Check your plug wire connections at the coil. Sounds like you have a partial connect and are experiencing arcing causing a weak spark at the plugs. The symptom actually indicates lean accelleration indicating the need to set the accellerator pump. Check wires and set pump and you should be pretty close on the tune.

I just bought the bike so I was checking under the seat for any damaged wires and I found that the battery cables were loose so I tightened them and charged the battery and I think that fixed the problem. Does this sound like it could have caused my problem?

First thing to check is not enough fuel going to the carb to sustain high rpms. In other words, you are running out of gas. If you ,as an example can pound it through first and second gear ok, but when you hit third it goes for a **** it could be the problem. Let it idle for a few and it again will go through the same time frame of high load and rpms. Your gears and times may differ, but that's an example of fuel starvation. Driving normally won't drain the amount of fuel coming into the carb and it won't show up. Could be coil break down too, or plugged main jet. For starters, put the old plugs back in.
