Default Questions about HD SuperSmart Battery Tender?

Hi Guys,

I used the HD SuperSmart Battery Tender for the first time today on my Sportster and I have several questions.

1. Is it okay to use an extension cord? I can't get my bike close enough to the outlet otherwise.

2. Is it normal for the charger to get hot? BTW, the solid green light was on indicating that "Monitoring Charged Battery."

3. On the charger it says "Do Not Overcharge Battery." I thought it was okay to keep the charger plugged in all the time....so how could it overcharge the battery?

Thanks guys....I'm new to all this and I don't have the instruction manual.

Yes, you can use an extension cord. And it does contain a transformer that is energized when the unit is plugged in, it will be warm, but it shouldn't get super hot. It will not overcharge the battery, that must be some kind of legal disclamer about overcharging.

when not riding, the battery tender is hooked up to the bike's battery. been doing it this way for years now w/o problems.

I have a 2010 fatboy lo that is prewired for a battery charger. I have a Battery tender. Will this work with prewired plug?

some dealerships go ahead and put the pigtail on the bike. The only thing I would do would be to check against the instructions that came with the battery tender to ensure that the positive and negative leads are hooked up properly to the battery before pluging it in.
