Default U1097 Loss of Speedometer Serial Data. What does it mean?

I'm getting this code (U1097) and I've spent 1/2 the day searching the forums and elsewhere on the net but I can't find a definitive answer as to what's causing it or how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you having any other electrical problems? I had the same code on my 05 RG but also had no brake lights or turn signals. Ended up being a bad fuse. Replaced it and all was good. YMMV

Absent the check engine light coming on for about 5 seconds after startup, I can't find anything else wrong. I checked all my fuses yesterday and some of them were a tad corroded. I cleaned everything up and cleared the code but when I started the bike it still did the same thing. Still stumped.

How did you "Clear the code"..... 'Cause you can't do it through the speedometer....

That is an historic code... something you did triggered it, like disconnecting the ECM, TSSM, Speedo/Tach while the maxi-fuse or battery were plugged in, or you have a loose cable...

Default ECM Code U1097

Let me know what you come up with for a solution, I'm having the same problem but, with a twist. My speedo is wacking out! It is inop and, sticks on anything from 60 to 150 (Pegged) while sitting still!
