Default 2001Road King running on one cylinder? Need help.

I have a 2001 Road King Classic EFI that will be running along fine when 1 of the cylinders will drop out and quit running .The check engine light will come on while this is happening , but as soon as you can turn the switch off and back on it fires back up , light goes off , and runs fine . Does this hot or cold , may do it in the first few miles or you may ride 25 miles before it does it . I have replaced coil, ecm, plugs, wires, and main circuit breaker .Still have same problem, any ideas?

Well, you've replaced just about everything. Because of that I'd be looking at the DFO or the connection at the front injector wire. A spark with no fuel will equal a non-running front cylinder. Can you pull the historic code and see what it is?

Are any of the injector wires (particularly the front) anchored to the frame with little slack? Sometimes they break inside the insulation. Sometimes tugging on the injector wires at idle will make it cut out on the cyl and you will know.

Try wiggling the wires to the injectors. As stated above, a broken wire near an injector is the most likely cause.

I'd also vote for testing injector wires. There are many posts here (and I speak from personal experience) about wires to the injectors breaking and the the rubber insulator will make it hard to see. As suggested, try wiggling the wires to the injectors. If you find the problem, please post and share your findings. Hope this helps....

I had this exact same problem on my '04 after changing the spark plugs. It ended up that the rear plug wire wasn't fully on the plug. I checked it several times, then all of a sudden it went on another 1/8 inch and the problem went away.

Well guys , its not the wiring to the injectors . Replaced the whole EFI wiring harness with a new one and rode about 8 miles and it cut out again .Thanks for the suggestions , if you got any more ideas let me know.

Rats. Try it without the DFO.

It turned out to be the front injector. It was shorting out internally. Rode 170 miles yesterday with no problems. Thanks for the suggestions , they got me in the right area.

My '02 EFI softail has been doing the same thing for a couple of months. Like you I've replaced or checked just about everything else..
How did you find the bad injector? Is there a way to check it myself or did a shop chase it down?
