Default Smart Security key light on while riding

While on a ride yesterday my security key light came on while riding and stayed on for an hour or more 'til I turned off the ignition. I don't know if it was on when I first started the trip, but I noticed it probably 50 miles down the road. After the next restart it didn't illuminate for the remainder of the trip, which was another two hours of riding.

The owners manual says "If the key light stays on while riding, see your HD dealer." The service manual just says "If the lamp remains on beyond the eight-second period, a current DTC exists." The engine check lamp never illuminated, which I assume means there is no historical code present.

Anyone experience this before? Could it be a weak fob battery? This battery is two years old.

The Service Manual should tell you how to retrieve the DTC

You have paper Manual, or PDF on your computer?

I thought the engine check lamp would illuminate if there was a stored code, so I didn't check. I just did and it showed "b1122" in the security section ("S"), which is "right turn signal open." I assume that to mean a bulb not working but both are at this time. Maybe one wasn't on the ride Tuesday.

I do have a Kury RTS module #4859 installed and have for almost four years, and the rear taillight is LED. Someone mentioned via PM that some modules can cause the key to light-up but Kury isn't normally one of the usual suspects.

Light on while riding is a current code, on and then off is a historic code.

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.

9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" (no response) will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

My key light went on this morning when I cold started my bike to go out on a errand, stayed on for bout 5 seconds then went out after I started it...hmmm. Got to my errand and shut her off and came out to start it again(warm) and the light then went on again for bout 5 seconds then went out. This is the first time something like this has happened.
I thought the engine light had to come on for it to make a DTC code, not the security key light
I went into looking for a DTC and came up with code U1097...fine... something with Loss of Speedometer Serial Data to ECM...maybe its a old code so I cleared that code (BTW there were no other codes present just the 1 in all the catergories).
Went out again to get a pack of smokes to see if I have another code waiting for me and did the diagnosis and...nothing, no codes but also the key light didn't stay on like the 2 previous starts.

Someone got a idea to why the bike did this?
