turn ignition on until engine light goes off, then turn ignition off again. repeat this 5 times and it resets the memory

check out the programming instructions on pages 4-17 of the 08 service manual

my 09 does that too- when you hold the throttle forward for 6 seconds, the rear cylinder will cut out ( heat management) the cruise control icon will flash green when in operation.

does your manual mention this? I am light on '08 knowledge

Default my 09 RK does the same thing.

I find that rather than the on-off with the ignition (while this works) is just a p.i.a. so I just sit with my hands off the throttle while the idle returns to normal (5 seconds or so) It is a little annoying for sure but not really that big an issue to worry about since it is so common with these new TBW systems

Your idle runs off of IAC motors, The voltage across both motors always has to be 5V, i.e. 1 can be .7 so the other has to be 4.3. If the motors don't =5 the bike won't idle right. What happens is sometimes if you shut the bike off before it comes to an idle the IAC motors (for lack of better terms) re-calibrate themselves to when the bike was shut off. There is some debate as to the proper way to shut the bike off, some say DO NOT use the run/kill switch on your handlebars as this only shuts off certain things (soft kill) the lights are on etc.etc. They say to ONLY use the ignition kill to shut your bike off as this shuts everything down simultaniously. It makes sence to me, you have to remember, your basically shutting of a computer now, and like your PC at home, if you don't shut it down properly sooner or later you will have hardware/software issues.

+1 on harleytuner's info. problem is, this is stated in writing by HD and yet owners who fail to read important documentation that comes with their bikes sue dealerships and the factory for their own stupidity....

I believe there was a Service Bulletin saying not to use the kill switch on TBW bikes for this very reason.

you believe there was a service bulletin. Where did you see it and when? I can't find any mention at all in regard to this.
