Default Multilock terminal removal

I'm looking at changing out my fuel gauge on a 2010 softail custom, for a flush mount, LED version. Below the tank there is a connection that the service manual is calling a "Multilock" style connection.

So far, I've tried jewelers screw drivers, an awl, and a small allen wrench to release the pins. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are they always that hard to remove? The book suggest a push pin, so I'm thinking that it shouldn't be that hard.
