2000 RoadKing would not start after wash
This is a problem and solution. Wanted to post since it took me awhile
to figure it out and spent alot of time reading all the great posts on this site, to help me narrow it down.
I have a 2000 Road King Police that would not start.
Scenario: I washed it at the car wash (usually don't but it was nasty)
It started at the car wash, I drove it two blocks, it died.
I got it started again after several attempts, drove it 3 more blocks it died.
Pushed it 3 blocks home (with help)
Symptoms:
Did not always hear the fuel pump whine when the ignition was turned on.
Some times the fuel pump would "chatter" when the ignition was turned on. Sometimes nothing at all.
Charged the battery, (since I killed it trying to start it)
Let it sit in the garge for one day, figuring I got something wet and it needed to dry.
Next Day, tried to start it. Fuel pump came back to life. It whined ever time the ignition was turned on. But still, no start.
Checked for Spark, NO SPARK.
Started through the manual and forums, checking sensors, coil, etc
My problem turned out to be Blown 5A fuse. ECM Power Fuse on the Right side of the bike, not in the fuse block on the left side.
I will try to post a picture. My bad fuse was the yellow 5A,to the left of the Blue 15A one.
But the fuse block looks like a long black connector with a cap on it, right next to grey connector with a rubber plug in it.
I saw this fuse in the wiring diagram, but it took me quite awhile to find it.
Hoping to help someone else save some time.
My guess is I got something wet, shorted something out and blew this fuse. Hope this helps someone else.
