Thumbs down P0122 TPS1 Low error code

I gots a buddy with a 2005 Standard. tru duals, cam, 3 1/2" BUB slipons, K&N a/c. he had a terry components tv-3 that had been hardwired in between the throttle position sensor and the ecu plug. delfi install. for whatever reason, it quit working. (65,000 miles)
He had on hand, a PC III. I flashed it with a map provided from FuelMoto. plugged it in and it seemed to ran fine. cut the wires attaching the tv-3 to the ecu/throttle position sensor and o2 sensor, removed tv-3 and installed pc 3 according to directions. . After starting the motor, the check engine light comes back on. and it appears the pc 3 is not working, lots of popping and spitting. error code is----> P0122 TPS1 Low<------- which indicates bad throttle position sensor.
But when the pc 3 is unplugged and stock ecu is plugged in and the bike is started, the check engine light does not come back on, but lots of spitting and backfiring, as occurs when pc 3 is plugged in.
we are making sure the cut wires remnants are isolated and taped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
