Default Bike wont start with VCI connected

OK I got the cables and pulled the map out of the VCI. I compared the map in the bike with the canned map and it appears the dealer did do some smart tuning to the map as there are some differences. Anyway I went to the toolbox and selected "VCI Data Record", then "VCI Record Start", then it says to disconnect the computer from the VCI. I did that and put the bike back together and had the VCI connected to the bike and secured. When I tried to start the bike the security light stayed on and the bike would not start. I disconnected the VCI and the bike started no problem. I tried the procedure again and the same thing happened. So what am I doing wrong on the smart tune recording procedure?

you have the right cable?

remember the new bikes use CANBUS cables (6 pin) vs the 4 pin J1850 cables for the older bikes

Yes I have the right cables, package says for 14' touring models and it has 6 pins. I was able to connect the VCI to the bike and the computer and was able to download the map from the VCI that the dealer loaded and did some smart tuning on with no problem. The problem I have is when I set the VCI to record mode and disconnect from the PC the bike wont start for some reason. I figure there is something Im doing wrong and was hoping the experts here could tell me what it is..lol

so if I recall correctly from previous "minimal" use of this device AND the procedure hasn't changed...

vci connected to bike and plugged into computer
turn your key on
flip run switch to on
click on icon in software for data recording (can't remember.. 2nd or 3rd icon down left)
once you hit ok
red light should be on solid on vci
DO NOT TURN OFF IGNITION OR RUN SWITCH
disconnect computer cable from vci
start bike
press red button and it should start blinking
ride
come back
press red button to stop recording data and it will be solid again
turn run switch off
DO NOT TURN IGNITION OFF
plug cable back into computer
download
when done red light on VCI should go out
when it goes out, you can kill ignition
modify your file(s)
rinse and repeat

Yes the red light is on, I even tried pushing the button and it went to flashing. For some reason the dang security light on the dash will not go off when the VCI is connected.

That is the way I did it earlier, huh. I will give it another try in the morning and see if I can figure out where I went wrong. Thanks for all the feedback!
