Default Direct Injection Engine for HD?

I've recently purchased a car that has a Direct Injection engine. DI engines have been around a long time for diesel engines but are now becoming commonplace in gas engines.

I've got the GM 3.6L DI and it pulls 300Hp and 262ft/lbs and still gets 30mpg on the highway in a Chevrolet Impala. 24 valve/variable valve timing engine pulls like a big block V8.

I've been reading where this technology will become standard in all gas engines in the very near future for numerous reasons and right in there with them are emissions standards. This makes me wonder when HD will come out with a replacement for the Twin Cam with DI technology. This may solve their problem with both EPA emissions standards AND heat management while still getting good power AND air cooled. ....maybe?

Any experts here care to comment or speculate?

I doubt it's coming anytime soon. Pump in tank won't work, as DI takes 100s of psi not 50.

It still may be cheaper to develop a pump that would work, vs. fight the EPA every year on emissions.

It's actually a couple thousand PSI for a gas DI engine. The run leaner and they generally have more compression as well. I think it could be possible with the liquid cooled revo motors, but I don't see how an air-cooled v-twin would ever handle the heat.

One thing HD will have to get over besides the mechanical solutions it will need to overcome is looks. The HD has a certain look and they have tried to stay with that look. Cars are a little easier to slap a plastic cover on it and shut the hood.

Can you just imagine how one would tune a DI system?
Unlike TPI or TB injection, DI requires very precise fuel injector timing whereas others do not as they spray on a closed intake valve waiting for it to open.
