I just stumbled onto this Forum the other day and offered my condolences to a brother who lost his Mom recently... It got me to thinking about my Dad.
I offer this for myself as much as for the memory of my Dad. You see for me to write about my Dad is therapy for me, to help me process the Life event of my Dad passing. My Dad passed away just short of his 89th. birthday 2015. (congestive heart failure).
My Dad lived the life of a typical American Man during his time. My Dad left school after the 7th. grade and started working. The money he earned he gave to his Mom until he entered the service.
Dad entered into WW II and joined the U.S. Navy Jan. 17, 1945 he served aboard the U.S.S. Halsey Powell (DD 686) and was Honorably discharged July 25, 1946. After returning home to Dallas, Tx. Dad met and married my Mom. They raised 5 children together.
Dad gave me my first bicycle, my first mini-bike, my first motorcycle and he gave me my first car. Dad worked two jobs all his married life until his last child moved away from home. After Dad paid off the first house he bought, Mom decided she wanted a newer home in a better neighborhood. So Dad bought her another house and paid it off also. He worked until his mid-seventies until everything was paid off including funeral expenses for him and his wife and they had a little money in the bank. Dad was lucky enough to enjoy some life in retirement. He was a simple man and simple things made him happy. I guess you could say he is the salt of the earth... My Dad is my Hero and I miss him often.
One of my favorite pics is He and my Mom sitting on my bike (2013).
God bless you Dad, I Love you Mom.
Just want to add a few pics please.

Thanks for allowing me to share.

I lost my dad also and its hard. Your dad is always watching over you so he is still with you. Great pictures. Unfortunately pictures and memories is all we physically have left of our passed parents. Your Dad sounds like he was a great man and worked all his life for his family. You should be proud of him.

My first Love...
2017 is here and I hope it's a great year... However, it certainly didnt start out that way. On New Year's Eve 2016 my Mom passed away quietly. She hung on as long as she could, and was in good spirits up until the end. She was a tough Gal. She now is with and rest next to my Dad, her Husband.
Thankfully my Brother and his Wife were in a position to take in my Mom and care for Her these past 14 months.
Mom had reached a point where she could now longer be left alone. Even before my Dad passed away. Dad was doing everything at home and caring for Mom and taking care of Her even though She didn't even realize she could no longer care for herself. I and my Sisters were so greatful that Mom was able to stay with my Brother and his Wife and did not have to go into a "nursing home" for Her last days on Earth. It was such a comfort knowing Mom was there with them while we others were working and until we could visit Mom weekly. Mom was a "salt of the Earth" type of person. She respected and appreciated everyone she met. She welcomed and invited everyone into Her home and made them feel "comfortable and at home". My Mom was a stay at home Mom. She cooked, cleaned, shopped, cared for and raised 5 kids and a husband. Mom and Dad were married for 66 years, had 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Everyone loved my Mom. She was the love of my life...

I'm so sorry for your loss of both your parents. Prayers and thoughts are with you. It's always hard losing a parent. I lost my dad in March 2012 and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss him or think of him.
