Default ironhead points/condenser

just wanted to share this. 77 was running terrible and replaced the condenser and all is good. i searched forums and found several references to using old chevy 6 cyl points and condenser, i used ref 65 pickup. Auto Zone part number for points DR1077MV and condenser U1515. $5 for condenser $10 for points. nice.

Yep ... It was a fix for my 1976 XLCH ... also be sure to check the advance unit ... It can ( and will ) seize up and can cause all kinds of trouble ... Look for "cinnamon colored powder" ... It's a sure sign of problems to come

i always wonder why the ironhead wears out the fly weights so quick. i have a small box full of worn out fly weights for the xlh but the shovel might still have the original weights. things that make you go hmmm....

My 1970 XLCH has a "breaker" unit and uses different points, the old style.
Sits on top of the cam cover.
I've never had any issues with advance weights on my bike.
AND, one night my generator went out, I left downtown dallas at 4am, my lights wouldn't even light AT ALL. I turned them off and rode 20 miles to my house. No idea how it kept running. Wish i had a magneto on it.
Harley really had an engineer that didn't know how hot points & condenser (or ignition module) gets inside that nosecone. Ruins **** fast!
KEEP ON RIDING MY BROTHERS!

sorry Mick i missed this --

2 are available one with bearings and one with out But it has special materials its made of and reinforcements in the pin area - we use both

Bearing advancer - V Twin - #32-9261 page 669 i believe its an import it was made in the USA but i dont see that one any longer this one is around 58 bucks

stainless reinforced unit made USA by Rivera - Mid USA book page 1-99 # 17543 -- 3 different ones are available for different curvs stock, hot cams - stroker kind of thing
