by site how can you tell if a bike is a 81 xls roadster

u can tell only by the vin as fae as I know...5-6 digits read (CB) Dusty

Yes, the vin will tell. Enine and frame will have CBH stamped in them for XLS. The XLS is an upgraded Sportster that came with a larger gas tank and the front forks were extended 2" so they sit a little higher in front than regular XL's.

They came with a superglide gas tank, longer fork, "black chrome" cases, touring seat and backrest
