Default 1983 xls

I have a 1983 xls roadster and I want to rebuild the top end is it easier to remove the engine or do it in the bike and also how rare is this bike Thanks for your help

You do not need to remove the engine to do a top end job.

Loosen the pushrods and pull them out. Then pull the heads and rocker boxes off together. Finally pull the cylinders off.

Production for 1983:
XLX-61 1,000cc 4 speed, (4,892) 'Sportster'
XLH 1,000cc 4 speed, (2,230) 'Sportster'
XLS 1,000cc 4 speed, (1,616) 'Roadster Custom Sport'
XR-1000 1,000cc 4 speed, (1,018) 'Sportster'
