I`m looking at buying a 85` ironhead and was wondering what the voltage output on the generator should be.Also did that year sportster use DOT 5 fluid in the brakes? Thanks in advance for any help. Skip

 

85 don't have a generator they have a alternator, my late 84 charges at 13.5 volts at idle,with all lights on high goes to well over 14 volts when reved up, i think they do call for dot 5 also

 

All the IronHeads have been DOT5 since early 70s.
