Default chains and case compatibility 1966 XLH?

chains and case compatibility 1966 XLH?

any ideas as to what year engine cases are compatible with a 1966 XLH (kick only) right hand case?

my chain master link broke at 110km/h and ripped the lower right corner off the transmission as well as tearing apart the sprocket/clutch cover and the back upper right of the cam cover. Needless to say I am devastated!

or perhaps something in the transmission caused the counter shaft to punch through the case and break the chain? is this possible. the transmission was working fine.

This, just a month after putting new cylinders, pistons and rings in and the bike was running great!

I do not think I picked up enough of the pieces to have re-welded, unless some magician could use flat aluminum and fill in the missing bits

I have been looking at cases up to about 1970 (kick only) and they seem like they might fit? any help appreciated

also, does the '67 on-wards chain fit the '58-'66 years models?

I would prefer to fix this motor rather than buy a new bike; trying to keep them alive after all; not concerned that the belly umbers will not match as I do not know they match at the moment anyway

In the 99451-78B parts catalog the crankcase part numbers are for the set, not for each side ...
24515-58A 1957 - 66 XL, XLH; 57-69 XLCH
24512-67A 1967 - 71
24505-72 1972
24505-73 1973 - 76

So it looks like you need 1957 to 1966. But i have no other knowledge or experience other than reading this catalog.

Sorry about your situation! I had 3rd gear go out on my 1978 last year. Cracked the back of the case. Aweful situation but not as bad as your own. Fortunately i had just left an intersection in the city, was not going fast, and managed to pull into a parking lot before total disaster ...
