I had a ball riding my bike in a rally yesterday but discovered yet another problem with the bike. I was having a hard time shifting from 1st gear in to 2nd. 3rd and 4th gears are fine. What could be the cause of the problem? Bent shift fork or worn dog clutches? I found that this is a common problem with the ironhead sporty's.

 

it has a shift rotater ( selector ) that like all things wears out and the forks get jammed in the cut outs for the fork rollers - before you have it overhauled try 1 quart MOBIL 1 syn dextron trans fluid -- if you try another type oil i cant help that it does not work --

The primary takes 1.5 pints == 24 fl oz, not a quart.

 

your probly right mick i have not look at a sporty book in forever, with the 50 or so sportys that come to the shop i have never had an issue with the extra, leaking -- the only thing today i see that was not like back in the day, is the clutch cables leak from the metal fitting / cable attachment -- jz
