A XLCH is a kickstart model. The XLH I believe had both kick and elec start. Depending on what is needed to get the bike back together and roadworthy, you might want to part it out. They sell for between $1500- $2500 all day long online.,,

Cannot have a G; must be another digit.

3AnnnnnH3 nnnnn == serial number, H == Harley Davidson, 3 == 1973.

Post a pic of this. You want to be certain that it has not been tampered with. Tampered with == stolen bike == bad news. It may be confiscated including any work, parts, etc that you put into it. Spend not a cent until you are certain that it is good. Even a title with the same numbers is not good enough if the numbers have been tampered with.

'73 starting and ending numbers... 3A designates XLH; 4A designates XLCH

3A 40001 H3 to 3A 71876 H3

3A 90944 H3 to 3A 92007 H3

There should be a corresponding number on the frame head as well

Any chance you could post a pic? Any chance you might be reading it incorrectly?
