Default stolen bikes?

hey, does anybody know of a web site that I could put serial numbers in to see if a bike is stolen, how do you go about researching this?

Go to your local DMV or Highway Patrol office. They can do it. Moght be a few bucks but better than sitting in the Gray Bar Hotel.

Plus: if you buy something, and down the road it is found to be stolen, you must surrender what you brought even if the seller provided papers.

Had that happen to me on a major purchase, not a bike but major. I had a copy of the buyers proof of ownership, a signed bill of sale and I even paid with a cashiers check. The guy used fake I'd to cash check, all paperwork was fake.

The police took the property and I had to pay for it a second time from the true owner. I learned a lesson. Check, check and check again. Good reason to buy from a franchise dealership.

carfax will be able to tell you about vehicles involved in accidents and incidents.

plus DMV and local Police depts. have procedures in place. especially for vehicles that are title deficient. for a fee they run the vin and report any findings.
they prepare a report that you take to DMV.

I've seen this site discussed on other forums. I have no idea how accurate or complete the information is. I've never used it myself.
