Default Will an o ring chain fit?

I could not find a direct answer in the other threads.I have a 1984 XLX. I am going to put a 22t front sprocket on it. Will a o-ring chain work or will there be clearance problems. Thanks for any help.

o ring chains come in different widths - some are wider than others so it depends on what you buy - 22 tooth is not going to be good for motor life as the engine will be up about 700 rpms from stock at speed

I have been running o-ring and x-ring chains first on my 1980 and now on my 1978 for almost 10 years. They fit with no trouble.

I suggest a 23 tooth front sprocket. That is what most guys run along with a 51 rear. Yields decent acceleration with lower hiway RPMs.

On my 1980 i had to clearance the inside of the sprocket cover to run the 23 with an o-ring chain. Was tedious to determine exactly where and how much, but it worked out well.

They came stock with a 21, so a 22 will lower the rpms at any given speed. I have a 23 on my -83, but I had to grind a bit off the sprocket cover mounting bosses to clear the chain. I don't use o-ring chains, so I don't know if you'd need to do any clearancing with a 22 or not.

Thanks for the replies. I intend to run 22-47, give or take a tooth on the rear. I was afraid with a 23 I might have clearance problems. I do like the oring chains, I run them on my offroad bikes and on my shovelhead.
