It's a 49 or 50 Panhead - The tank emblems were used 1947 - 1950. The Glide front end started in 1949, so.. that is a 1949 or 50 if it is stock & I'm sure it is stick - Start with a Heritage Softail like others have said - Eastcoast Jim

I respectfully disagree - I see 3 sgt stripes on this one - There where black lower legs through maybe 1954 per Bruce Palmer. maybe Police models. There are factory pics of 50 & 51 Police models with black forks. - Eastcoast Jim

Well as the owner of a 49EL I am going to say it is a 1949. As has been mentioned, police bikes came with more black painted steel parts (exception of course were the fork tubes which were aluminum) in order to keep the initial cost of the bike down.

The obvious things like tank badges and fender stripes indicate is is a 49-50.

Why I think it is a 1949. '49 was the only year for the spot welded front fenders; in 1950 they used rivets. Hard to tell from the pic but there does not appear to be any rivets visible.

One more reason why I believe it is a 1949 model. In 1950 the headlight shroud had the words "Hydra Glide" on the top. Again it is hard to tell exactly from the pic, but the top cover appears smooth with nothing on it in that area.

Cool looking pic though.

You have better eyes then me - but the headlight panel does appear to be smooth - no Hydra Glide script. maybe it is a 49 - Eastcoast Jim
