I have heard other guys pulling power off the cigarette lighter. Wouldn't that work?

ASH-

I think I have the same grips as you. Your left side grip, with the 3 wires, did they come like this or did they have a connector?

I am assuming black is ground, Red is positive and orange is a switched source?

Watched the vid you had posted up in the start of the thread. I guess I will have to get into the bike to see how this is supposed to hook up because I am not seeing it with the pieces that I have in front of me. HA!

Yep..same one's I have...From what I can tell I need to run the wire that runs thru the bars down under the gauges and plug in, the leads that go outside the bars should run under the tank (that sucks) and connect to the accessory wiring kit that you also have to install. I just hooked up my Corbin seat to it. However I am a little concerned as it has a 7.5 amp fuse and the grips have a 4 amp fuse. The accessory wiring kit is rated at 10 amps.

My Svc Manual says the heated grip interconnect is "under outer fairing, right side". So there should be a plug already to go in the Right hand bar, the left we will use the longer extension to plug into the " interconnect". That will tie the grips together. After that it is just a matter of power, ground and switched power. I am not running under tank and all that.

My understanding is the rt. grip gets plugged into the TGS and it's done..then the Lt. grip will get plugged in under the gauges, then the outer wire goes under the tank and plugged into the 3 accessory wires coming from the P&A kit. When you installing real curious when you get under the gauges..my understanding from the video is everything that plugs in is right there..no reason to remove fairing...

Maybe be able to get into it this weekend, if it rains and I cannot ride.

It seems if you want to just hook it up in under the gauges (which is what I hope to do), need to figure a couple things out. 1st our grips have 5 wires. 2 coming out of the center of the Lt. grip and 3 wires coming out of the side of the Lt. grip. Now if you look at the OEM grip ( look at pic below) they have 2 plugs coming out of the center and ea plug has 2 wires..Now looking at this and guessing...the black/white wire would go to the Rt. grip and the Red/Black would go to your power source both positive and negative under the gauges. So with all that said I assume the 3rd wire we have with our grips is for the switch?? Could the switch be built into the plug under the gauges? If so what do we do with our 3rd wire?

If the '17s are like the '15's the wiring is already there, at least on a batwing. Here's a post I did about it a while back...

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...l#post14752098

In spite of not needing it, the instructions STILL said to buy the accessory harness.
