I bought the grasshopper driver backrest for something like $59 delivered. I had to bend the flat metal on rest to "adjust" to my liking but it does what it should. I see they are now $85. I'd say worth it.

I think this is what OP was thinking of... it is DEFINITELY what I was looking for when I searched the forum for "touring rider backrest!" I was just looking at the one you're talking about exactly. How long have you had it? Materials holding up well? I know it doesn't fold down at all, do you find it's in the way mounting or dismounting? I saw it on amazon but thanks for linking the actual company, wouldn't have caught that!

Default Backrest

I recently bought a back rest from off of the eBay site but had to return it it’s likely will go with the Harley OEM part this time

I bought the grasshopper when I had a Fatboy. It worked well but it was a bit bouncy for me. The metal bar is thin so pushing back on the backrest was easy. For my SGS I went with Mustang backrest. It’s a bit more in price but less than HD and the bar is thick. There is a small thumb screw and you can adjust the backrest forward or backwards. Not too much movement but adjustable. No bounce to the backrest and chromed. Highly recommended!
I got rear ended this afternoon and the backrest definitely saved me and my back. I was able to stay on the bike and kept it up. I’m sure I’ll feel the whiplash tomorrow morning. I had my back fused so anything to support my lower back helps.

The Grasshopper in combo with the Sundowner seat is the shiz on my new Heritage. I had the Mustang touring seat with backrest, but it put me back two inches from stock position.

Should just post this stuff in the Touring forum and be done. This is an engine forum. Threads about fat bob foot pegs belong in the softail forum and touring back rests really belong in the Touring forum, but the admins apparently dont care and so we really just have a mess.

Bought one for my bike and just using the mount since my easily adjustable Saddleman backrest off my Dyna works in the mount. Not impressed with the amount of padding that is in the supplied backrest but quality seems good.
