Time for an upgrade
I'm looking to upgrade my stock speakers and add an amp. I'll keep the HK stereo for now. Can someone tell me what the difference is in 4 ohm and 2 ohm systems? I found a brand new Rockford Fosgate PBR300x4 amp for 140.00 but its a 4 ohm amp. I would have to get 4 ohm speakers. Is this a good deal ? Any help would be appreciated...

PBR amps have a history of cutting out. I have 2 of their newer TX400AD/4 and have had no issues with the amps. The Arc Moto 600.4 is one of the best amps out there that fits in the front fairing. This amp gives you a couple nice options. You can run two high output component speakers with it bridged at 300 watts per channel x2, or front speaker and bag speakers or lower fairing speaker at 150 watts per channel x 4. My suggestion to anyone from experience, is to buy good audio components the first time. Trust me, you'll be buying everything twice or three times, and you'll get pennies on the dollar every time you sell the old stuff. If you can't afford to spend $1000 or up at one time, then I would suggest buying good speakers first. Then buy a good amp, and then replace the head unit. Jensen and Aquatic both make a nice plug and play head unit, that makes install and use easy.

I had a J&M 250 watt amp and now have a J&M Rokker 500 watt on my 2012 FLHTK with the stock head unit. I use J&M Rokker speakers in the fairing, lowers and rear and it ROCKS. No problem hearing your favorite music at 80mph. I also have an aftermarket exhaust and still no problems. I enjoy clear music first and then loud music. My set up gives me both. If you go to the J&M website and look under refurbished you will find a GREAT deal on amps. They use the old housing but give you new internals and wiring, you still get a 2yr warranty. I also just installed the new Rokker 330 amp in my friends 2015 RG and a Rokker 250 in another friends 2009 SG. They are all plug and play and only take about a half day to install everything. Hope this helps, good luck with your decision.

No sure if my PM went through. My understanding is 2ohm offers less resistance therefore you get more sound with less power. Shop around and you will find a great set up without spending very much. You can always start with a good amp and two speakers and add on later. Just remember to buy items that will work together so you don't have to start over to add something.

At the end of the day man.. when it comes to anything audio with your bike.. you truly get what you pay for... Just because it is cheap doesn't mean that its worth buying. Before you make any big decisions on this.. you really should check out the audio section of this forum.. you can really learn a lot of the guys on there and they will never lead you in the wrong direction. Also.. haha I work for a shop the specializes in Bike audio.. so if you would like to get some questions answered and some prices on stuff. Just shoot me a pm and we can go from there.
