rode a bike over the weekend with a radio on it. Liked having music come out of speakers instead of using my ear buds. I have a 2012 Fat Boy lo, i don't want to mount speakers on my bars and not sure about doing crash bars. Thought about maybe doing a mustash bar and doing some blue tooth speaker or on some type of floor board extensions. also would like black bullet speakers. Options and thoughts well appreciated

 

I would think it'd be tough to get enough volume out of any speaker mounted down low like that to be able to hear it going down the road.


How about this thing? It ain't cheap, but it gets good reviews. There may be better/cheaper options out there, but I had my eye on this one when I had my RKC.

i saw something like that, but what i don't want to do is have something on my bars. trying to figure out a way to hear it clearly without compromising the look of the bike. i figure if i mount speakers on the top of an engine guard to the left and right of the tank with enough watts, i should be able to hear it pointed right up at me. while hanging a small tool bag on the engine guard right in the middle of where it connects to the from. inside the bag would be the wires and the amp.

 

You'll smash your fender hanging anything there. You'd be surprised how much sound you lose and quickly without a fairing. You gotta remember that sound travels like a water ripple when you drop a rock in a still pond. Radiates out from its source. The ripples are in the air, the same air that's rushing toward you, at 65 mph, and the same air that you passed, at 65 mph, and the same air that's moving away from you, at 65 mph. Check out the audio forum, one of the biggest improvements guys say they make to their sound is better wind management. Reduced wind noise, buffeting, etc. We create a pocket of still air behind the fairing, then we can hear the music. Not trying to burst your bubble, you'll need serious wattage to be able to hear your tunes on a Fatboy.

You won't find any pair of speakers that are going to handle that kind of power. Typical coax speakers are peak wattage of 250-300. You need to look in the audio section and see what guys are doing with systems on their bikes. Guys running 6-8 speakers on a 1000 watt amp. there's a guy in there taking about systems for softails.

 

yeah, i saw a guy who ran other speakers in headlight buckets. thinking that's the route to go

 

i did a lower fairing installation with speakers and RF PBR300. i can hear till 70MPH with much clearity, post 70 wind noise starts to take over but not completely until 85.

Planning to install the HD wind deflector on front shocks and see if it makes any difference post 85mph. but if you ride between 70 and 85 it works and i am quite happy to have them.
