Hey Hardheaded,

DUI's are not a fun thing. Some states weigh heavily on steep penalties for DUI convictions.

In California, some companies will not even take someone with a DUI charge for 10 years... The charge stays on your record for that long. Some companies offer a "guaranteed renewable option" which is earned based on your longevity with that company although you dont see that too often anymore.

If you are convicted, your rates will def be affected. I have seen DUI rates as low as $1,300 per 6 months and as high as $5,000 every 6 months.

Premium will depend on the company, location, coverage and type of car.

If convicted, you most likely will have to bare the burden of adjusting your coverage tremendously for the first few years in order to lower your rate among other things.

When facing a major conviction, dont panic. It wont be easy, but if you put in some time you should be able to find a combination company and coverage that fits your budget until you get some years under the conviction and the premium begins to normalize.
