Default Bike Insurance Recommendations

I'm looking for some recommendations for motorcycle insurance. Rates change from year to year, so I'm looking for some recent experiences of folks on this forum.

I'm currently with Progressive/Drive. My yearly premium just went up nearly $500. No changes to the policy, no tickets, accidents, etc. The bikes are both one year older, and presumably worth a little less, is the only difference on my side versus last year.

In fact I was with Progressive in 2008 and at the beginning of 2009 my insurance almost tripled (Hayabusa). Same story then. Nothing changed with my situation…except the bike was a year older. I only went back to Progressive because I decided to give my business to a friend who reps Progressive/Drive. And in fact, this past year my premium was decent. In 2008 the rate was competitive, too. It seems to be the second year of coverage where they try to get to you. Apparently when they think they've got you in the bag, they try to 'Drive' it in. Or maybe it's just chance…Whatever. I'm pretty confident I can do as well or better elsewhere. I'm giving my friend a chance to work it…but just in case…

Thanks for your recommendations…

Alan

I had Progressive for three years. No tickets, no claims and they tried to double my premium. I called and tried to reason with them to no avail. I went with Allstate, better coverage and lower premium. It helps that I have my cars and house insured with Allstate. And my agent rides a Harley.

I had progressive do the same to me. As a HOG member, I switched to Harley insurance services which they have several different companies to get you the best rate. I haven't seen any big increase since, and my new bike didn't add much to my annual premium. that's probably due to security system & ABS.

I have had Geico, Progressive, and a couple of others. I have 3 Harleys insured and found Foremost to be the best for me.

I signed up with Progressive, through my dealer, when my new '03 came in early. I didn't have time to shop for insurance.

Six months later, I switched to AAA for half the price of Progressive.

Here we are, 12 years later, and I haven't been able to find anyone in SoCal to beat the price AAA gives me....

FWIW.....

You can't judge what your rates might be by asking others. Too many variables in play to declare one company cheaper than another in all cases foe all people. Just get a bunch of quotes and go from there.
In my case, I was paying around $125/year for my first bike (2005 Suzuki, owned from new till 2013), thru Progressive, which also has my boat and cars so multi policy discount, etc. Full coverage, high liability coverage, etc. ...
They wanted almost $600 per year for the same coverage on the limited. I can see a somewhat higher premium- newer bike, worth more, etc....but not 6 times more.
I got quotes from several places, ended up with Geico, same coverage, under $200 per year. The other quotes were all over the map, some higher than Progressive.
