Default Michigan Riders Insurance

If you live in Michigan you probably know our state has some goofy Insurance rules that make our policies expensive? Who has what insurance they are happy with? I also have a scooter that I ride around for 3 months June July Aug and the insurance is $300 ? Advice is appreciated.

First off there is no such thing as cheap insurance in Michigan. Currently with progressive, but not loyal to any particular company. Shop early and often.

In February switched to Markel after years with Progressive, I kept all liability/bodily injury/uninsured motorist coverage at the same max levels as with Progressive and the rate came in quite a bit lower than what Flo wanted for a 12-month policy.

One thing to consider, if you don't have first party medical add it to your motorcycle policy, motorcyclists in Michigan are required to pay the MCCA fee of $186/year but you can only collect from it in limited situations that involve a motor vehicle, low side in a curve and you're on your own.

If people here would have spent half as much time railing about the disparity of insurance coverage between motorcyclists and motor vehicles as they did about the helmet law we could have corrected that glaring issue, motorcyclists are second class in Michigan but hey, you can ride without a helmet now, as long as you're willing to pay the long dollar for insurance you most likely can't use...

For what it is worth.......

I looked extensively (for Florida) and Geico won out each time. Not only that, but when I needed them, they came out, looked at the bike damage, gave me a check on the spot.

I 1st went to HD and got an estimate which was abt $7,500 worth of damage.

Geico came out, did their own estimate which was like the same amount and gave me a check right then and said if HD needs more just let him know. More was not needed.

Each time I contacted them, no matter who I spoke with, they could not have been nicer. It was like I was their only customer and they have LOADS of them.

Best price. TOP service. No hassling of any kind.

We have 4 vehicles with them now.
