Default Insurance rates for your bike....

I am currently insured through National General Insurance on my Suzuki DRZ 400S dual sport bike. My rate is about $100 a year for liability on that bike.

So I called National General today and the first time got an idiot who didnt know what he was doing and transferred me to the HD dealer.....which was closed.

Anyway, so I called National General back and got a knowledgeable representative who gave me a quote over the phone. I was surprised to hear her say that to add in my 14 year old Harley, for liability only was gonna up my yearly premium by almost $200 bux. Is this a reasonable rate for liability for a 40 year old rider that has a clean record with 2 bikes insured under the same policy?

I just wanted to hear some feedback from you all. Not complaining, just wondering. If its reasonable I will just go ahead and add it on, if not I will shop around some.

well, I decided to call them back and damn if I didnt get some rude customer service reps......I swear I get so pissed off when I have to go through that mess. It used to be as easy as walk into insurance office, tell em what I wanted, and done. I set it all up for online now, so i dont have to deal with the rudeness.

I tried 3 times to get connected to the girls extension number that was so nice and knowledgeable. The rest were so unproffesional, and dumb it was nerve racking.

Yea Upflying,

Sounds like mine. I am 39 years old, never had an accident or a ticket. 2014 Harley Breakout Softail through Geico. About $780.00 a year. Full coverage about the same as yours.

So no, that isn't high. That is always the thing about going to buy a new Harley. You figure in everything except that insurance that you forgot about lol.

$316/yr for full coverage on my 2014 1200 Custom thru State Farm.

100/300 liability, comp/collision, uninsured/underinsured, towing/travel expenses, 250 deductible.

Interestingly, it costs nearly 2x more for the uninsured/underinsured loser coverage than for my own liability - uninsured/underinsured are over 60% of the premium.

I feel like these numbers are fair. I will look into State Farm and Geico. If they can get me close to these numbers on my Harley, and a decent number on adding my DRZ 400S dual sport bike I will go that route.

I reluctantly renewed my policy with National General, mainly for convenience because I already paid up the year in full on my DRZ and thought it was gonna be quick and easy to add in my old Harley.

I didnt realize the young lady I got on the second call to National General was the ONLY knowledgeable employee they had at their call center. I wish I would have took the opportunity to renew my policy with her, instead I feel like I am waiting on some negative fallout from Lakwanda.

I recieved TWO emails from them, with my proof of insurance in them.

The first email stated all of the correct information, but an effective date of 8/18/14 through 8/19/14.......ONE DAY

The second email stated all of the correct information, with an effective date of 8/18/14 through 8/19/15

This has me worried that they may have screwed up my insurance account some how. I set it up online now so that I can avoid the dumarse reps at the call center in the future.
