Foremost insurance just informed me of "general increase for all motorcycle policies in the state of Virginia". My premium went up $78 on the year. I get nothing more for that increase. Thank you State of VA. Thank you Foremost. May you both acquire painful VD.

 

The rest of the states will get around to us eventually.

 

Foremost just doubled my premium on my 2012 from $512 last year to $1100 this year.
When I called to ask why........ they had absolutely no valid reason for the increase.
Long time customer, no claims, no tickets.
Just pay us twice the $$$$.

 

I was paying $317 a year with Geico on my '00 FLTRSEI through the first half of 2014. The accident that totaled the bike happened in Feb of that year. (The other guys fault.) But when I bought back the salvage and turned it into a "Road King" my rates nearly tripled to $920 per year!

I of course secured insurance from another company for $450 (there was additional coverage now for accessories. Road Glides don't run Road King windshields for example,) and when I went to cancel my old Geico iinsurance the rep asked my why?

I explained myself. The rep said give her 20 minutes and called me back with my new rate of......$356 per year, full coverage plus $1000 accessory.

She couldn't explain my rate jump in the first place but I've stayed with them thus far. Go figure.

 

GIECO raised mine by $115 this year. When I called them they said it was a state wide increase for Pennsylvania. I raised my deductibles to offset the increase. We'll see what happens next year. Also, I reduce coverage to the absolute minimum for three months in the winter.

my yearly with geico is like $196 and I have raised several coverages.

 

Just added my 2012 FLHTK to the State Farm policy that covers my '76 and my '93 Bimmer, and it went up a whopping $170 PER YEAR over what I was paying for the 2 bikes.

It pays to work with the agent.

My first quote from State Farm was over $650 yr. just for the 2012.
Had them check deeper.
It seems they screwed up and had me in a different category.
Gave 'em my SSN and all of a sudden the rate dropped from 650 to 170.

Geico has excellent, excellent customer service, car and motorcycle.
BTW, whatever liability insurance you have, ask for a quote on higher. Often you can double, triple or more liability coverage for only a small percent premium more.
Ex: 50,000 per person / 100,000 per crash vs 250,000 / 300,000 for 7% more premium, about $40. Per year.

Insurance companies use info about you to set their rates: are they up to date? It could cost you hundreds if they arent. A relative had high rates, discovered insurance company showed several court fines not paid, but had been paid years before. Its up to you to ask the company; they arent likely to volunteer the info. Went to courthouse, got receipts, went to DMV & smiled & corrected their records, called insurance company. Within a week rates dropped by hundreds. So then family and friends checked up, too. One had an unpaid court fine, about $200, and an unpaid ticket, $100, from five years before as a crazy teenager. Never got dunning notices from the court. But it was still on DMV record (yes, Virginia DMV knows all) insurance company had been charging rates $400 a year higher, every year since. Went to courthouse, paid with cash, got receipt, took to DMV to correct their record, asked insurance company to re-check, rate dropped like a rock.
