NIX 22mm Ohlins are in
The new Ohlins 22mm fork cartridges are in with limited numbers. They are only available on a few:
* 39mm Sportster forks which will not work out of the box with 39mm Dyna forks without my modifications for the time being.
* 49mm Wideglide forks. I can also make provisions for converting these cartridges and installing them into V-Rod sliders for your 49mm Wideglide for twin calipers/disks.
As of today there is no out of the box NIX 22mm drop in, out of the box standard Dyna or V-Rod OEM solution.

- Compression & rebound adjustable as well as spring pre-load through the top cap.
- Direct drop in.
- Uses your existing top out springs, oil locks, and damper rod bolts.

Spelling it out
MSRP: $831 for either cartridge, that means 49mm WideGlide or Sportster.
The FKS 205 for the Dyna WideGlide uses the 04744-xx series springs. Springs sold separately. They retail $75 each. The FKS 205 retails for $831.00.
FKS 206 for XL 883N / 1200N 2007-?16, SX 1200X Forty Eight 2007~15. These do not use 04744-xx series. These use 08428-xx series springs. Only have 8.0Nm and 9.0Nm options costs $120/pair. The FKS 206 retails $831.00.

Oh, and one more question. I know the 30mm kits you make will be a better solution overall, but for budget conscious individuals (cheapskates) like me, what are your thoughts (if you've had the opportunity to try these yet) on the NIX kits performance? Say for arguments sake, vs racetech springs and emulators? Thanks.

Explanation How to Mount Ohlins Cartridges/short Version
Explanation How to Mount Ohlins Cartridges/short Version
Unless someone has a WideGlide and purchased one of the two NIX 22mm that were available (Many NIX Type cartridges) or has the ability to cut down the damper rod and make a new spring guide to fit another shorter (FXFB, SG, FXDB, et Al.) than at this point, no one would know. It is somewhat labor intensive and one would have to physically measure the stroke on both WideGlide and/or whatever Dyna you want to put it on (other than WideGlide) because the aluminum piece on the bottom of the cartridge uses that harsh OEM top out spring (for rebound) and controls the stroke which should be standard OEM length. Principles on How They Work, Take a look:
Remove the sliders off of the fork tubes. Install the top out spring onto the bottom shaft of NIX 22 or FKC-101/102. The NIX 22mm or FKC-101/102 is inserted through the captivated check valve and into the fork tube. Install the oil lock in the end of the shaft than install the slider like normal. The forks must come apart, there is no drop inn just like all but one front fork product available.
The shorter or longer the available stroke is controlled by the length of the aluminum rod below the cartridge cylinder (screwed in) that goes through the Check Valve in both the NIX22mm & the FKC-101/102.
NIX 22 (only) installs without the spring & spring pre-load spacer. All oil to the appropriate fill level, install spring & spring pre-load spacer than tighten the fork cap. Apply correct spring pre-load, compression, and rebound. Ride to tune than have a good day.
I designed my NIX 30mm differently. Even though I make my own mounting system for 49mm Dyna’s (in this case), I cut the check valve out of the fork tube and toss it. The cylinder is much longer and strokes of up to 7 ½” are possible and I can set top & bottom out any place I want it. The top-out spring is on top of the piston and under the seal head so different value & lengths can be chosen for that custom build. I install this kit in any HD 49mm fork there is. The Öhlins NIX 30mm cost a lot more than the NIX 22 or the FKC 101/102 because they are far more sophisticated and complex. Look at e-Bay and compare pricing on any of the above.
All can be 100% rebuilt and you do not have to worry about not finding a qualified Öhlins Factory Trained & Authorized Service Technician like myself and buying parts (availability) can be ordered as there is no antiquation like most other manufacturing companies. You can buy a part for the very first Öhlins shock for re-build or replacement.
There are many reviews from experienced riders when asked the question: How is the 30mm cartridge in comparison to XX Brand (all of them)? The answer is always the question should be how much worse is the XX Brand in comparison to MotorcycleMetal’s suspension solution!
Do the math of the area (A = π r2 [Radius Squared X Pie]) of the piston:
.................SQ mm.... SQ Inch
P = 20mm: 314.16..... 0.4869489739”
P = 22mm: 380.13..... 0.589202678"
P = 25mm: 490.87..... 0.760850022"
P = 30mm: 706.86..... 1.09563519"
To answer a question:
Yes, I can install a WideGlide NIX22 into any 49mm fork. The aluminum rod may need to be changed, the damper rod and spring guide must also be addressed. Machine shop time cost money. Than there is a matter of valving the cartridges properly. This can only be done by actual testing and not on a computer program.
