Default How to value an older bike?

I t looks like I am going to have to sell my Springer. It is a 1995 badboy with way to many mods to list. So my question is, how do you put a value on a bike like this? I mean, the bluebook price on a 95 fxstsb is something like 5500 bucks, but I have no idea how to value things like the wheels and tins, chrome parts, paint etc.
I bought it for 10500 about 5 years ago and have only put on about 3000 miles (about 26000 on the clock now). It was not quite showbike when I bought it, and I have done nothing to make it more valuable. As a matter of fact, I have only put on a battery and rode it. The paint is starting to lift at the fuelcap and somebody bumped the tank and chipped the paint a little on one side. Also, the little odometer reset thingy fell out the other day.
So can anybody tell me what I should hope to get for it?

That old, the KBB is a guide to start with. Paint lifting, chipping, balding tires deducts a bit.

Nice wheels are one of those things that might add to the value above KBB IMO.

It's all about overall condition. 26,000 miles is nothing. Paint jobs are VERY subjective, Love it or hate it.

My honest guess if I was looking at your bike....maybe $7500, (now or 10 years from now.)

Its always tough with used bikes. Just talking with a guy I know the other day. Has a 2001 fatboy with and easy 20k of motor work, paint, wheels and chrome on it. He wants 13k, it books for like 9k I think. People won't touch it, he has been trying hard to sell it for a year now. Its a buyers market right now with bikes. A lot of people hurting for money having to get rid of there bikes. Maybe if the right person comes along he may get it.

Your bike is nice but in reality after market parts don't really add value. You can shoot for a little over book, but you may find that your aren't getting any bites. If so lower that price.

Around 6-7 but it's a tough sell because you have to find someone who wants to pay more for that bie.

I just sold my 01 Deuce with 20000 miles for 15K...the trick is to find someone who loves all the mods....I had mine listed for about a month without one call...then out of the blue this fellow emails me and want to trade a Sporty and some cash...I say no thanks but he wants to see the bike anyways...he come to look at the bike and in less than 5 minuets with out even starting it or riding it he offers full asking...SOLD!...we shook hands and I had the money the next day.

Selling a stock bike is easier I would think.

Stiggy is 100% correct about the custom paint issue.
You'll have to find someone who loves the bike in order to get a decent price for it.

For me, buying or selling a used bike is more about mileage and condition than model year of what it's supposed to be worth according to a Blue Book.

I have my wife's '99 Heritage up for sale, and honestly I've seen many '07's and '08's that are no where as nice as her bike is.
Even a novice can tell when a bike has been take care of and has not been abusedand if you're not asking an unreasonable amount for the bike you'll eventually get your askingprice (or close to it).

BTW, that little reset **** on your speedometer is ony a few bucks but you will also need the screw that holds it to the stem.

Since the paint needs some love. I would repaint it a solid color. That will open up your circle of potential buyers.

How much do you think a new paint job on a bike is going to cost? Subtract that from the price you can ask for the bike, and it's not worth it. He might as well just sell it for 3 or 4 K and skip the paint because the bottom line would be the same.

$800 here for fenders and tank at auto body shop. Custom is over a grand to start. I had an older Heritage that looked great. Was about 80% restored. Best offer was around $6500 so I worked out a trade from a guy who was selling on eBay. Cash you are looking 6-7500 or somewhere in the middle. It all depends on how bad the buyer wants it.

Just noticed it is a springer. That changes things a bit. They are more popular.

The low value has more to do with the economy that the bike. It is a buyers market at the moment.
