I am selling my 1975 XLH 1000 Sporty and live in Massachusetts. The bike is in excellent condition and only has 5,500 original miles. New pistons and rings, bored .010" over, new paint, tires, S&S carburetor, Dyna 2000 ignition, and lots of chrome! Asking $6,000 but price is negotiable.

I never thought that it would be so tough to sell this bike. I thought it would sell pretty quickly giving the low miles and great shape that it is in.

Glad you asked and the only thing I can conclude was that the original owner did not break the motor in properly back in 75' when he bought it. Back then you had to break in the motor your self, they came with NO mileage on them at all, the owner was required to break the motor in properly and by the looks of the pistons and how brittle the rings were, I suspect he overheated them. When I did a compression test the rear cylinder had about 100 psi but the front had only 15 psi! Unlike today's motorcycles and cars for that matter, are already broken in from the factory and have mileage on them when you buy them so you don't have to initially break the motor in. The initial break in period of the first few hours is very CRUCIAL. Plus the fact that the factory pistons were soft from what I've been told by a friend who bought and owned three of these Ironheads back in the day. He said that the AMF years were cutting corners and the first things that he changed on them was the pistons and the carburetor. Plus the fact that the bike sat for 25+ years in a barn didn't help!
This bike is better and stronger running now than when it was new!
