Default Advice needed for first Sturgis trip

I'm making plans for my first Sturgis trip this year. I have a few friends that go every year but they go out the week before and come home just before the event starts. Is there anything going on the week prior besides supporting the local watering hole? thanks

If you riding out from MN take US 14 rather than the interstate.

Ya, It's already going crazy the week prior to the rally. Lots of bands in the campgrounds, etc. Riding is a bit better, less crowds. Summertime in the Black Hills is what we live for.

I have a service/repair shop just South of the Rapid City dealer, on South Plaza Drive. I am an ex H-D Factory Technical Rep. If you need parts/service/ bail money, etc. Stop-by.

By Thursday it looks like full on rally only missing half the crowd. No concerts. Prices pretty much doubled on Thursday. Lots of times we were the only guys on the road early in the week until we hit the big tourist spots. Was actually able to blast down iron mountain rd from Rushmore and only had to pass a couple of cars, no bikes (nothing like dragging boards all the way around those pigtails, we saw the sights on the way up). I'm not as much of a "woohoo" partier as I used to be so I like the week before but you will miss some things. Concerts, Stonehouse Saloon, Hulett No panty Wednesday, Nemo Firehouse pancake breakfast, Craziness at the campgrounds, etc...
