Welcome. I'm rather new here myself. This is an easy fix for very little money. Here's what I do. I go to the dealer and I get TWO new check-***** and a new spring. I take the old spring and the old check-ball out and I throw them away. Then I take some Brake-Kleen and long-handled Q-Tips that I get from my doctor's office and I clean the seat area as best I can (a small piece of rag and a screwdriver will also work fine, just be sure to get the rag out of there).
Then I drop one of the new check-***** in place, and using a drift and a small hammer, I give it a rap just to make sure that the seat is properly formed to the shape of the check-ball. I then take that ball out and throw it away also. Lastly, I drop in the second of the new check-*****, install the new spring, and button it up.
Some guys like to lap the seat with an old pushrod and some lapping compound but I personally just can't bring myself to introduce lapping compound to the inside of an engine. I've been doing it as outlined above for a lot of years and I've never yet had it not work.
Best of luck,
Dan
