Default First Harley Davidson

Long ago I stopped riding but only after logging somewhere around 100K miles with (4) different metric bikes, then I went away and raised a family and like so many others before me every time I walked out of a store through a parking lot and a couple of fine machines were sitting there I would tour around them looking at how nice they were and would think man I need to get me one of those, I always wanted that Harley, but could never afford it.

Well June 2014 that dream came to fruition, it started on the HD web site, "Build your Bike" so I put together my always wanted machine, a grey on metallic silver Heritage Classic, a beauty of machine. I printed my dream out and within a week I headed down to my local dealer, walked in and Russ met me, "Can I help you", why yes Russ, "Do you have one of these"? I showed Russ the picture, just so happened they did have my exact bike in their inventory......wow!

It didn't take much thinking, "How much"?, OK I'll take it, sat down and drew up the contract. Russ was happy, I was happier, "Come pic it up tomorrow after work", Russ said to me.

Well the next day came, and it poured all day, so had to delay it, in fact it poured for (2) days, (3) days goes by and it is still raining by not hard and by the time I got out of work it had stopped, the skies were grey but the roads had dried up nicely. As you can imagine I didn't want my baby to be christened on its maiden voyage and I was nervous enough about riding off into the sunset after not being on a bike for 25+ years.

Well I have to say that the experience of picking up a new Harley Davidson is truly something to behold, the formal introduction to the service department, the parts counter and best of all the bible, the part catalog. I was able to slip out for under 3K in additional parts, but then, ah that doesn't include labor to install, but eh its my first Harley and what a fine piece of pure American engineering it is.

Sadly winter has knocked on the door already here in Southern Michigan (snowed like crazy today), put the bike up last Tuesday when I had brought it in for its 10K service, that's right I put 10K on her since the first week in June. Have done some great trips already and will miss riding as she is up in storage at the dealership until spring.

Note to self: Move South!
