Well Its About Time!
Hello all, looking forward to learning from everyone on this forum. For over 30 years I have been riding dual sport motorcycles. Beginning with my 81 Honda XL 250 all the way to my recent 2013 BMW F700GS. Being able to go anywhere on my bike was very important to me. If I saw a trail or if the pavement ended I always knew I could just keep going. I think the not knowing what was around the next corner intrigued me.
But after 9 motorcycles and living where there is very little "off road" riding I began to rethink what I wanted for a motorcycle. After riding the BMW for over a year I realized that I was on the street 99% of the time. And since I enjoyed my wife or daughter coming along it was clear that I was on the wrong bike.
So recently I visited my local bike shops and started looking into what would be a good bike for me down here in SW Florida. I saw a lot of bikes that probably would have been just fine. But when I visited the Harley Davidson shop something was different. The bikes looked like they were made out of some sort of exotic material. "Metal" I think is what they called it. I threw a leg over one of these V-Twins and I was hooked. This was what I needed.
My daughter said she could picture us polishing the chrome in the driveway on a Saturday morning. And then it hit me. Every bike I have ever bought was for me. Yeah my wife and daughter came along but it was basically what I wanted. But this was different. They were both getting excited about buying clothes that would match the bike, my wife is even going to take my free riders course so she can one day ride also. That way all 3 of us can be together.
Buying this new Heritage Softail changed our life. Our sales person said all bikes are pretty decent, but Harley gives you something to do with it. And he is right.
So finally at the young age of 52 I have finally stopped drooling over the kind of bikes we all wanted when we were 15 years old, and now in my garage is a beautiful Amber Whiskey/Charcoal Pearl Heritage and all I can say is..."Well Its About Time"
