New-ish from New Hampshire
Well, since I'm commenting on threads instead of lurking, I guess I might as well make the intro thread. I'm from NH and I'm going to be trading in my '09 Kawasaki Vulcan Custom SE for a '15 Street Glide Special.
Initially, I was looking pretty closely at the Vaquero a couple years ago but it just didn't sit well with me, so I figured I'd hold off and keep looking at touring bikes. Last year I started seriously looking and I found the Street Glide (I'm not traditionally a "Harley Guy"). I saw the Rushmore changes, the 103, etc. and really liked what the bike had to offer. I wasn't completely sold because of the stigma Harleys have, so I did my research. Turns out every independent reviewer and consumer service finds Harley-Davidson bikes are as reliable and well built as any other bike. It's funny how bullshit becomes fact until you actually look into it.
Anyway, after doing a ton of research last season I decided to take one for a test ride. That was a mistake. I wanted to take it off the lot right then and there, but I had some bigger priorities so I put it off. Until this year. It's been a long year of looking at parts, reading reviews of exhausts, reading forums...just a long year of thinking about the bike.
So the plan is that I'll be trading in my bike, putting some cash down, and hopefully come away with a '15 Street Glide Special. While I'd love to have the Mysterious Sunglow or Denim Black, it'll be plain old gloss black. Easy to care for, common color for resale, and I really don't want to pay or wait for a custom paint color. I'm really looking forward to it, and hopefully I can talk a dealership down a bit on price to where I want to be.
This forum seems to be one of the better and more active ones out there, and there have been tons of questions I've had answered just by searching around here. So hopefully I'll be adding pictures of my own bike in 17 days or so. Looking forward to officially joining the group as a current owner!
