Hello from Barcelona
My name is Joan and I live near Barcelona. This is my experience with motorcycles, which is somewhat peculiar:
At 21 years old (now I'm 57) while studying, I got a job in the night shift at an assembly line until I bought my first bike (the only one so far): A used Bultaco Mercurio 125cc, like this :
I thoroughly enjoyed her during three-month. Without any idea about mechanics I dismounted it completely, piece by piece, pistons, rings, carburetor, ... cleaned it, assembled again and adjusted it.
I went with her everywhere (and in any state and condition). It was 1979. No helmet, which was not required. Driving through Barcelona downtown to 60 mph and no one said anything.
After three months I stamped it at 55 mph, without helmet against a car crossing Diagonal Ave. I put the passenger door up to the gearshift. Dual total loss: the bike and me.
After the removal of my body, one week in a coma and three months looking at the ceiling, I decided not to approach a bike again. I guess it was kind of self-protection. And so until now.
All this time I liked bikes and have struck me especially Harleys. But the bikes were "not for me".
Now Destiny has placed in my path access to an Electra Glide Ultra Classic. I've been warming slowly (if three days can be slowly) and I'm going to get it. I'm 57 years old now and more focused and wiser (I think).
So now I must read a lot, ask and learn. I hope someday to contribute also.
Sorry for the brick, but this one can compensate for other one-line presentations.
