First Harley
#1
Hey all,
I've been riding for years and this is my first Harley! I wrecked a BMW a couple of years ago and the Chief Financial Officer decided it was time for me to ride again. How awesome is my wife?!!
I picked up a 2014 Street Glide with some after market bits and pieces. The question I am now trying to figure out is what type of leather jacket for colder riding? I have 14" apes and with some shoulder issues from rugby and the BMW face/shoulder plant a few years ago I have quite a bit of pain and numbness in my right shoulder that radiates eventually to my right arm. My position on the bike puts my arms straight out but it's very comfortable when I ride, especially with the cruise control so I can alternate which hand is on the grip.
Wearing a jacket with my arms raised puts a lot of pressure on mu shoulder which then leads to my arm going numb.
Any suggestions for a heavyweight leather jacket that has the mobility in the shoulders?
Thanks in advance for the advice. I will post some pics soon

Congratulations on your first Harley. I too ride with apes, 12.5, and the position takes pressure off of an old neck injury. As for jackets check out the new FXRG Switchback. It's a big investment $795 but it is very versatile. It will offer all season riding with both shoulder and elbow protection. It's a heavy jacket but seems to offer good mobility.
Good luck and enjoy the new bike.

Hey, welcome and glad to hear you are riding again. Yeah, she sounds like an awesome wife/CFO. I have no suggestions on the riding jacket. I'd hit a lot of shops and try out a bunch of different brands and styles. Maybe buying a size larger would give you a little more room. I know mine fits pretty tight.

Welcome from the Texas Gulf Coast region. Great looking bike and the CFO is a keeper. As far as the jacket goes, you will have to go try some on. I imagine most motorcycle specific jackets will be tight in the shoulders. If the apes hurt to much switch back to standard bars. I'm sure you'd be able to sell them. Or possible swap with someone on the forum plus some cash your way. Best of luck and keep the rubber down.
