Greetings From Canada's Far East
Hi All,
Just purchased my first bike after a 20 year hiatus, a 2014 Dyna Low Rider. I started riding at the age of 9, with a Honda 75 dual purpose, then graduated to a Kawasaki 305 when I was old enough to get a license. I owned a few other Japanese bikes in my 20's but gave up riding in favor of travel. I've ridden a few times over the years, but now that I've settled down a bit, and my kids are old enough to ride on the back, I figured it was time to own again. I bought a Honda Shadow 750RS to get used to riding again, but after about a week, I realized I needed something more. I've never had any particular affinity for Harleys, and frankly had bought into the stereotype of the Harley as loud and over-bearing. That changed the moment I rode one. Now my wife is the owner of a Honda Shadow 750RS, and took a riding course and got her license (I'm already shopping for a deal on a Super Low 1200 for her so she can keep up).
This Harley is by far the biggest bike I've ever owned, but the power is both exhilarating and manageable. And I LOVE it!
I did a ton of research, and rode a ton of bikes before coming to the conclusion that the Low Rider is THE bike for me and my current needs. I'm 5'6, so the fit is perfect. I can plant my feet firmly on the ground with bent knees, and the adjustable risers are a great feature for my short arms.
I prefer to ride naked (the bike, not me), but I have quick release windshield, backrest, and saddlebags for longer rides, or 2 up. I have a whole bunch of customization plans, starting with an exhaust upgrade, which I'll address in another post.
I live on the east coast of the island of Newfoundland, in one of North America's oldest cities, St. John's. There's too much wind and rain, and the riding season is pretty short (May to October), but the scenery is breathtaking and traffic is rarely a problem, so I ride every chance I get.
I just joined my local H.O.G. club and look forward to the few group rides remaining in the season.
